A geographical Indication is a sign used on goods that have a
specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation
that are due to that place of origin. Most commonly a geographical
indication consists of the name of the place of origin of the
goods. Agricultural products typically have qualities that derive
from their place of production and are influenced by specific
local factors. A geographical Indication points to a specific
place or region of production that determines the characteristic
qualities of the product that originate there in.
For filling an application for the registration of Geographical
Indication the applicant has to provide a complete detail with
regard to the origin, quality and the reputation accrued to it
by such usage in that particular region.
